3 Keys Vision:
We aim to provide chaplaincy care to underfunded agencies across Oklahoma and beyond at little to no cost. We belive chaplaincy care can make a difference in the health of all first responders and will relentlessly pursue this vision.
Our Mission Statement:
3 Key Fire and EMS Chaplains seek to provide the highest standard of spiritual care by being prepared, proactive, and present. Before, During, and After the Call.
How we live out our mission statement:
- Prepared:
- Our chaplains possess and maintain the highest level of education and training
- Each chaplain is specifically trained in Fire/EMS Chaplaincy
- Monthly training is provided in all aspects of chaplaincy
- Each chaplain is required to complete 12 CEUs per year
- Proactive:
- Our chaplains are more than just on call; you will see them making station visits and forming relationships with your members.
- Our chaplains will offer mental health and wellness workshops to raise awareness and talk about prevention.
- Our chaplains will conduct frequent check-ins on the department's spiritual well-being and overall morale and will report their findings to the command staff, when appropriate, without compromising confidentiality.
- Present
- Our chaplains aim to maintain a frequent presence without being overbearing or hindering department operations.
- Members will have 24/7 access to weather through their assigned chaplain, an on-call chaplain, or a virtual chaplain. Spiritual care will always be accessible.
- We are there before, during, and after the call.
Why Chaplaincy Works Especially Well for Small Departments
1. Low Cost, High Impact
Chaplaincy services require minimal financial investment compared to formal employee assistance or clinical programs, making them well-suited for volunteer agencies.
2. Flexible & Scalable
Chaplains operate on an on-call basis and can respond in person or virtually, allowing departments to access support without maintaining full-time staffing.
3. Builds Trust & Retention
Having a consistent, compassionate presence helps members feel supported as people—not just responders—which can improve morale and long-term retention.
4. Support Outside the Chain of Command
Members are often more willing to talk openly with someone who is not involved in discipline, promotions, or evaluations.
5. Supports Families—Who Support the Department
Volunteer service impacts entire families. Chaplaincy extends care to spouses and families, strengthening the department's support network.
Risk Management & Professional Boundaries
The 3 Key Fire & EMS Support Services Chaplaincy Program is built with clear safeguards:
Defined scope of practice separating chaplaincy from therapy
Strong confidentiality standards with legally required safety exceptions
Mandatory referral and escalation procedures for suicide risk or mental health crises
Alignment with recognized Fire & EMS wellness best practices
These protections help departments demonstrate due diligence while prioritizing member well-being.
A Practical Wellness Solution for Volunteer Agencies
Chaplaincy is not an added program to manage—it is a supportive partnership. For volunteer Fire & EMS departments, chaplaincy offers a realistic, compassionate way to care for members, support families, and strengthen organizational resilience.
